Newsletter: September, October, November 2022

Updated: Sep 19, 2022

Hello and welcome to our next installment of our Quarterly Newsletter. We have some exciting news to share ahead so please read on.

The Gap Creative Open Studio's

The date is set! Mark your calendars. The Gap Creative is proud to announce our very first multi-location event, ‘Open Studio Weekend’, on Saturday 15th & Sunday 16th October.

We will be inviting visitors to take some time ‘drifting’ between our local creative’s studios to see just how their incredible work is created. The Gap has an astonishing list of talented creatives, and this is an opportunity for the community to get behind the scenes to see just what goes into some of their wonderful work. Studio's will be open from 10am until 4pm Saturday + Sunday.

Some of the participating artists are planning private events on the Friday evening prior to opening (14th October), so we will be in touch closer to the date to invite you along.

To keep updated, ensure you are following along on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/thegapcreativeinc

We would love to extend our thanks to our Corporate Sponsor's this year, their support means we can run events such as these and our special thanks to being generously supported by the Lord Mayor's Community Fund / The Gap Ward for our signage which we will be placing around the neighbourhood soon!

From the Committee

Our President, Colin Bushell writes: Hi all. I hope everyone is well. I am writing this from the departure lounge, heading out to Norfolk Island; the first time I’ve been on a plane since 2019!

I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to the recent gallery launch at Ruby Red. These events are beginning to reflect the reach that The Gap Creative is getting.

On that note, I would encourage everyone to consider how we can serve not only ourselves as creatives, but also local business and organisations. These relationships will determine the success we have when it comes to future events, such as the Open Studio weekend, galleries and an Art Trail.

If you know anyone who has expressed an interest in what we do, please pass their detail on. Membership comes with enormous benefit within the community, but none of that could work without the time and effort spent by our volunteers, who spend upwards of 20-40 hours a month to make things tick.

If you can help in any way, we’d love to hear from you.

In the meantime, I am going to take a well earned break and soak in the sea air!

Take care everyone and let the creative juices flow.

Colin.

New Members

We have welcomed a few new members over the last few months, lets give a warm welcome to:

Craig Stampfli From Craig I am a commercial photographer based in Brisbane, Qld. I like to take portraits of people underwater and cars above water. I generally don't take too many things seriously apart from photography.

James Baird

James Baird is a prolific creative who has expressed himself in many media - cooking, gardening, woodworking, blacksmithing and clay to name a few.

Taking up watercolour about 10 years ago, James has been inspired by the Australian landscape from beaches to outback mountains ranges and the wild coastline of Tasmania.

He is particularly inspired by the great Indigenous watercolourist from Hermannsburg, Albert Namatjira, and the anciet landscape of Central Australia.

In 2021 James spent three weeks in Alice Springs, sleeping in a swag by a campfire at night and painting by day. That trip inspired many artworks.

Lynsay Allen Lynsay hails from the East Coast of Scotland. Looking back, the haze of idyllic childhood is palpable.

These core memories ingrained an innocence and belief in inherent goodness that is reflected in their creative outlook with a persistence of character, symbolism, and intention.

Lynsay’s ability to occupy this space is owed to upbringing and lessons gained through empowered, supportive communities.

A trained botanical artist, Lynsay uses skills and experience with mediums gained through this practice to break down traditional forms. Whilst underlying themes of work can be weighty, there is a lightness and ease in the finished pieces that exude hope, joy, love and acceptance.

Ruby Red Jewellery

"As a jewellery designer and gemmologist, I am passionate about creating unique, custom pieces that tell my customer’sstory, combined with a style that feels great when worn. Often the gem inspires the design.

I also specialise in making the most of your existing assets by working with you to re-model unwanted and no longer worn jewellery. I am currently studying jewellery valuation through the NCJV and look forward to offering this service early next year".
