Newsletter: June, July, August 2022

Hello and welcome to our next installment of our Quarterly Newsletter. We have some exciting news to share ahead so please read on. We have welcomed a few new members over the last few months, lets give a warm welcome to:

Eliza Dedini

Eliza is an Australian artist with a love of capturing the unique curiosities of life beneath the surface of the ocean.

Eliza’s love of marine life started at a young age, and during her teenage years she discovered her passion for wildlife conservation work. Delving into volunteer projects, Eliza found herself in Sumatran jungles aiding elephants, and on boats surveying marine habitat health.

After two Bachelor degrees in the Marine Sciences and Environmental Science, Eliza’s passion for highlighting the wonders of the natural world continues to grow through her artwork.

Donald Harvison Donald is inspired by wood what he sees in nature by hand carving his own vision of Australian animals, birds, and sea life.

Sometimes he will carve an animal, other times a piece of wood will come alive on its own. With just a little imagination one can be quite creative following the grain, natural beauty and warmth of timber.

Since retiring I have returned to my first loves; art and music."

From the Committee

Our President, Ashley McHardy has decided to step away from the President role and Vice President Colin Bushell has offered to step into this role until our vote at the AGM at the end of the year.

From Ashley: "I would love to thank each and every one of our members for joining with The Gap Creative Inc. the past 2 years - we started this with 7 members and today we have 30 with new members joining every month! The vision when starting this community venture, was to unite the creative community and offer opportunities for us to meet up, create together and hold events and we have achieved this and so much more!

I wish we had more opportunities for these events (covid had other plans!) I am however thrilled about the events, meet ups and workshops we were able to hold with great success and turn outs!

It has been such an honor to be a part of the research, planning + delivery process of this project for our community and the next stages of continuing the dream will be a beautiful collaboration of our committee and all of you with great ideas, diverse skillsets and support from the community. I will absolutely still be part of the membership + committee, and I will be at the gallery event with bells on, (I might even have time to paint now!). I look forward to see what the future holds for me these next few months and as my business is shifting and progressing in a new direction, it requires my attention. I am always available for a coffee + chat, to bounce ideas off of or to just have a yarn!"

Alex Stathakis started his career in sustainability and climate change in 2009, which, coincidentally or not, ended the second warmest decade on this planet on record.

He worked in some high profile carbon and energy policy roles, including administering the Australian Government's National Carbon Offset Standard Carbon Neutral Program (now known as the Climate Active program) at Low Carbon Australia Limited (now the Clean Energy Finance Corporation). In 2015, Alex left EY and founded Conversio so he could focus his practice on helping businesses adopt sustainability practices that were tailored to their specific needs. Within Conversio Alex supports a wide array of clients, from SMEs to international airports, to determine their carbon footprint and energy intensity.
