Debra Pickering

Unlike some artists, I only discovered art when I was 30 years old. I went to adult classes and discovered in the art or subject I would draw. I went onto Uni to graduate as a graphic designer.

After working for 15 years in various graphic design companies, I actually worked as a Horticulturaist (Tafe Trained). It is amazing how being an artist helps in horticulture. The colours, the shapes, its styles.

After 10 years I then went back to art and started Art Classes Brisbane here in The Gap. That was 10 years ago. I just love teaching students art! It is so rewarding and I have made so many friends and met so many lovely people.

I’m amongst all that I have drawn & painted for 30 years, entering local and interstate art competitions. I have sold quite a few paintings over the years.

We asked Debra:
"What role does the artist have in society?"

Informing, educating, providing a fun, relaxed form of entertainment.
